The Serie A outfit are keen to add a new goalkeeper to their squad and have now opened talks to lure the Dutch international to Italy
Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini has travelled to Amsterdam this Friday to open talks with Ajax about the possible transfer of shot-stopper Maarten Stekelenburg, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports. The Serie A side are in the market for a new goalkeeper because of the expected departure of Alexander Doni to Liverpool, and they reportedly see Stekelenburg as the perfect replacement.
The 28-year-old has developed into one of Europe's top goalkeepers in the past couple of seasons and his impressive development hasn't gone unnoticed in the Italian capital.
Stekelenburg has a contract until the summer of 2012 with Ajax and an offer in the region of €10 million will likely be enough to lure him away from the Amsterdam ArenA.
Roma have been linked with several players since the summer transfer window opened, and seem keen to wrap up several deals in the coming days. Aside from closing in on Stekelenburg, they're also on the verge of signing Barcelona attacker Bojan Krkic and River Plate youngster Erik Lamela.
